Bog wood (or morta), especially bog oak, is a special material - while being buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic conditions for thousands of years, this wood became slightly fossilized and very hard. It is useful for archaeological dendrochronology, and often used for woodcarving. Since there is a limited supply of the bog wood, prices for this type of wood are very high.

This pendant was carefully hand carved in bog oak that is about 6 000 years old. The oak was found in an ancient bog in central Croatia, in a place full of archaeological sites from Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age. The pendant was sanded and treated with natural olive oil. After carving, it was adorned with 19 pieces of beautiful, raw red garnets that were just a little tumbled to become shiny. The gemstones are coated with transparent, glossy lacquer. The pendant measures 3.6x1.5 cm, while the gemstone filling measures 3.1x1.1 cm.
